Irpinia is an area full of contradictions, but if you love quality wine and pedalling in total tranquillity on an ebike, perhaps a rented one, on traffic-free roads to discover small extraordinary villages with an agricultural vocation, you cannot help but love it.
We are in the province of Avellino, and it will take just a few pedal cycles to grasp the first contradiction. The metropolitan hustle and bustle of nearby Naples (the airport and station are less than 50 km from Avellino, very convenient and quick to reach) and Salerno is just around the corner, yet you are immediately struck by the peace and serenity that pervades these places.
The second great contradiction, on the other hand, you will begin to smell it - but it would be more correct to say 'taste it' - on arriving in Lapio, starting with tasting the Fiano di Avellino, one of the incredible wines produced in this territory which, more unique than rare, can boast no less than 3 Denominazioni di Origine Controllata Garantita (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin).
Although the low mileage and the not-impossible altimetry could allow this Grand Tour to be completed in a single day (there are continuous ups and downs and a few challenging climbs), we recommend that you consider splitting the trip into two stages, so that you can enjoy the winery visits, a stop at an agritourism and a few chats with the inhabitants of the villages you pass through without the anxiety of time running out.
At the end of the tour - the third contradiction - it will be natural for you, as it is for those who live and for anyone who passes through these parts, to ask yourself: how is it that such an exceptional territory is still so little known in terms of tourism?
This route is a loop tour that starts and finishes at the e-bike rental point in Chiusano San Domenico.
However, if you prefer to start from the e-bike hire point located at the Avellino Cycle Station (Contrada San Lorenzo 18, Atripalda), add the AB/BA route (16.5 km) to this track to reach Chiusano San Domenico in comfort
The Grand Tour dei Vini Irpini is an itinerary that does not present any particular difficulties and can therefore be tackled with all types of e-bike available for hire: city, trekking and full suspension e-MTB.
This route lends itself well to being lengthened or shortened as required. So, feel free to contact us to let us know your time and/or fitness requirements: we will be happy to customise this track to perfectly suit your needs.
And now... let's go!
After refilling your water bottles with spring water from the Fontana Vecchia (a few hundred metres from the Chiusano San Domenico ebike rental point), ride back for a very short distance and, at the roundabout, follow the road to the right in the direction of Lapio. From now on, as far as Lapio, the road will always be downhill, but you will not get bored. Magnificent panoramas will keep you company and there will be no lack of views to photograph. On your right you will have the majesty of Monte Tuoro to keep you company, with the villages of Luogosano, Gesualdo and Fontanarosa in the distance. To your left, on the other hand, you can admire the Partenio Park, with Montevergine and other inhabited places. You will soon find yourself immersed in olive groves and long stretches of vineyards.
When you arrive in Lapio, take a tour of the village. In this area, thanks to the peculiarities of the soil and the specific environmental conditions, some of the best Fiano di Avellino wines of the entire province are produced. If you feel like tasting some of them, you will be spoilt for choice. Along your way you will encounter many wineries of this prized Fiano DOCG wine.
Follow the GPS track and continue your descent. The houses give way to vegetation and the road becomes winding in places, so be careful. After a couple of good kilometres, immediately after a bend, an imposing iron bridge towers above the road. Stop your ebike: you have arrived at Ponte Principe di Lapio. This bridge, built to allow trains to cross the River Calore, is a jewel of modern architecture. Learn more about its history in the fact sheet and don't forget to take a few photos before setting off again.
Once the wheels of your rented ebike have crossed the bridge under which the Calore River flows (not a bad view here, is it?), a wild ascent of about 2 km will begin. Some magnificent vineyards serve as a prelude to the entrance to the village of Taurasi, famous for the DOCG wine of the same name. An elegant wine that takes time to produce (minimum 2 years of barrel ageing, according to the production discipline) and time to appreciate and enjoy. Even in Taurasi, there is no shortage of wine cellars to visit and opportunities for tasting.
After having explored the production sites of Fiano di Avellino (Lapio) and Taurasi, all that remains is to reach Tufo, the production village of Greco di Tufo on your ebike.
From Taurasi to Calore (hamlet of Mirabella Eclano) the effort for you and your e-bike will be decidedly limited. The road continues almost always downhill and the pedal strokes required by your ebike will be few and far between. When you arrive in Calore, take a few minutes to walk around the small lake and to look at the bridge on which the road you have just travelled rests.
From here to the junction for Ventinticano, pay attention! You will be cycling for about 1.5 km on the Via Appia, an often busy road, also used by heavy vehicles. Although the road is uphill, in a few minutes, after turning right at the fork for Venticano, you will be back on a low-traffic road.
After passing the village of Venticano, you will be faced with the most challenging climb. 6 km of real climbing awaits you, with some stretches that exceed 10% gradient, so be sure to arrive here with your ebike's battery still charged. This road, after passing through the village of Pietradefusi, will lead you into the historic centre of Montefusco.
The town, located at the top of a hill, was an important political centre until 1816, when the role of provincial capital was taken from it by the city of Avellino. As well as enjoying breathtaking views, excellent Fiano di Avellino and splendid Greco di Tufo wines are produced here, thanks to its proximity to Tufo. The historic prison (for information on opening hours, ask at the Proloco) and the Monastery of Sant'Egidio (on the slopes of the town), where Padre Pio stayed during his novitiate, are of great importance.
Leaving the old town centre, you will come across a beautiful fountain where you can take a break after the strenuous climb and where you can refill your water bottles, before taking to the road again and leading your e-bike downhill towards Tufo.
When you arrive in Tufo you will have covered 40 km by now since you picked up your rented ebike in Chiusano San Domenico. When you stop at the beautiful fountain in the centre of the village square, you cannot help but agree with us: we are not exaggerating at all if we say that for at least 80% of the way here you have cycled through vineyards!
This is where the famous Greco di Tufo is produced, a DOCG white wine that has an ancient history and had the distinction of being the first wine that was able to bring Irpinian oenology into the national and international limelight. Many small and large farms produce wines of the highest quality. Ask for advice in the village or set out on your own to discover the cellars where you can taste some: you will be pleasantly surprised.
After Tufo, the loop begins to bend towards Chiusano San Domenico, where the Grand Tour of Irpinia wines by ebike will end. Not before, however, having passed through Pratola Serra and tackled the last long climb of the day. Conserve some battery power because you still have 10 km left almost entirely uphill! Just outside the town of Pratola Serra, TAKE GREAT CARE: THERE IS A VERY DANGEROUS CROSS-ROAD TO BE CROSSED!
You will pass through the small villages of San Michele di Pratola and San Fele, before arriving at the entrance to Montefalcione and, without crossing the village, finally joining the provincial road that will lead you to Chiusano. Since, in order to avoid busy roads, the itinerary includes passing on minor roads, keep an eye on your GPS track and navigator so as not to miss turning at the right crossroads.

Roddino
Roddino, a border village between Lower and Upper Langa, is the ideal place for a refreshing break. Don't miss the chance to taste the local cheeses and the typical "Murazzano DOP", which is produced a short distance from here.
Monforte d'Alba

What to see in Fondi
The last stage of the e-bike tour along the Appia Antica starts from Fondi, crossing charming coastal landscapes on panoramic roads that offer breathtaking views of the sea towards Itri. During the journey, it is possible to admire numerous archaeological sites and historical monuments that testify to the importance of the Appia Antica, the ancient Roman road. Cycling along the Appia Antica, you can savor the delicious local products of the area. Fondi is famous for the production of olives and high-quality extra virgin olive oil, which can be tasted at the numerous farms in the area. Furthermore, the area is renowned for its cheeses, such as buffalo mozzarella and pecorino, which pair perfectly with fresh bread and local cold cuts.
What to see in Itri
Continuing along the Appia Antica with e-bikes towards Itri, a charming medieval village located on the hills. Itri is a small town that offers several interesting sights to visit. The narrow and winding streets of the historic center lead to the discovery of ancient stone buildings, historical churches, and picturesque squares that retain the authentic atmosphere of the medieval village. The medieval fortress castle of Itri, located on top of the hill, dominates the surrounding landscape and is one of the symbols of the village. Visiting the castle allows you to admire its imposing walls, medieval towers, and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding countryside and sea. Itri boasts several historical churches of great artistic and religious interest. What to see in Formia
The e-bike tour along the Appia Antica ends in Formia, a charming coastal city. After the ride, you can relax on the city's beautiful beaches and enjoy some well-deserved rest. You will be amazed by the magnificence of nature and these small villages, but since Irpinia is a land famous for the quality of its wines, the first part of the ebike excursion will be dedicated to exploring vineyards and some villages with a strong wine vocation, with excellent productions of Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo, the two great DOCG white wines of the province of Avellino.
The second part of the itinerary, which you will cover on your rented ebike, takes you to the foothills of the Partenio Regional Park, a protected area established in 1993. Here, nature takes centre stage. The great thing about ebike tours is that, whenever you want, you can stop to admire a landscape and visit the villages on the slopes of Monte Vallatrone and Montevergine in more detail.
This route is a loop tour starting and finishing at the e-bike rental point located at Ciclostazione Avellino, not far from the station and halfway between the towns of Atripalda and Avellino.
However, if you prefer to start from the Chiusano San Domenico e-bike rental point, add the AB/BA route (16.5 km) to this track to reach the Avellino bike rental point.

The first four kilometres will not be exactly unforgettable, but once you have passed those, we promise you that your e-bike ride will become decidedly more interesting. Once past the village of Picarelli, a tiny hamlet in the municipality of Avellino, the road begins to climb, the traffic noticeably decreases, and the industrial atmosphere gradually gives way to rural landscapes and rolling hills.
The road continues placidly uphill, amid hazelnut groves and vineyards, to the fork for Montefredane. Arriving in the central square of this beautiful village, home of Fiano di Avellino, you will be amazed by the enormity of the space. Here you will easily spot the Town Hall and the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine. Just to the left of the church, you will notice the archway that allows passage under the bell tower. Take that passage to get to the ruins of the Caracciolo Castle, whose construction dates back to the 10th century. If you are lucky and find the gate open, you can admire a spectacular view of the Sabato Valley.
A beautiful downhill country road, with no traffic at all, will delight your legs and your e-bike, leading you without any difficulty to the village of Tufo, the birthplace of the famous DOCG Greco di Tufo white wine, the pride of the entire province of Avellino. The town will reveal itself to your eyes after crossing a small bridge over the Sabato River. When you reach the end of the road, turn right to reach the main square of the village, refill your water bottles at the fountain, and learn more about Tufo by reading the fact sheet.
Continuing your itinerary by pedal-assisted bicycle, you will pass by the ancient sulphur mines, fundamental to the development of Tufo's economy in past centuries (although they are undergoing restoration, at the time of writing this information sheet they are a site that cannot be visited) and return to cross the River Sabato. At the crossroads, turn left and, after 1 km, turn right towards Pannarano / Roccabascerana / Cervinara.
From here on, the second part of your ebike tour in Irpinia begins. In front of you towers the Partenio Regional Park with its wooded mountains. Approximately 15 km almost entirely uphill await you, so be sure to start this section with a good energy reserve in the battery of your rented ebike.
As you grind your way with your pedal-assisted bike, Monte Vallatrone and Montevergine will get closer and closer and nature will become more and more lush. Once you reach the hamlet of Ciardelli, at the crossroads continue on towards Pietrastornina. From now on, the landscape becomes more and more beautiful and you will enjoy beautiful views of the Parthenio Park, but not only... At a certain point, a marvellous panorama will open up on your right, allowing you to see Rocca Bascerana, the Sannio and the majesty of Mount Taburno. Passing here at sunset time, especially in summer, will give you a light and colours that are worth all the effort and effort put in on an ebike.
After getting onto the state road, pedal 3 km more on your e-bike to reach Pietrastornina. The stone spur from which it takes its name and on whose summit the town's castle was located, will be clearly visible to your eyes well before you enter the town. This place is teeming with stories and legends, all to be discovered, perhaps by chatting with the locals.
The next village you will cross on your ebike is Sant'Angelo a Scala, also known as 'the village of the two popes'. Here, in fact, Pope Paul IV was born, and there is a strong cult for Pope Silvester (who is celebrated on 31 December), to whom a small church is dedicated that can be reached via a footpath from which a miraculous water gushes out. According to legend, Pope Silvetro convinced Emperor Constantine to go to Sant'Angelo a Scala to bathe in the miraculous water and thus be cured of leprosy.
From Sant'Angelo a Scala to Summonte you will be right at the foot of the mountain and, in some places, you will almost feel as if you can touch it. The chestnut groves will keep you good company along this 3 km ascent, which is also the last you will face today on your ebike tour.
The Angioina Tower will welcome you to Summonte, recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. So, if you have time, take the opportunity to visit its narrow streets on an e-bike or on foot. From here, numerous trails allow you to explore the Partenio Park by hiking/trekking.
Here the ascent ends and you will quickly reach Ospedaletto d'Alpinolo, famous for its nougat production and for being an obligatory crossing point for the many pilgrims who decide to go to the Montevergine Sanctuary (1,300 metres above sea level) on foot.
A long descent will take you to Mercogliano, with its beautiful avenue lined with centuries-old plane trees, and then down to the city of Avellino, passing completely along Corso Vittorio Emanuele (a pedestrian street where bicycles and ebikes are allowed). After passing through the Manganelli Urban Park, by the time you reach the mural of the famous artist Millo, you will have arrived at Avellino Station, and then in just a few minutes you will reach the ebike rental point located at the Avellino Ciclostazione.
This is where you will end your day in the saddle of the rented pedelecs.

Embraced by a combination of history and nature, within the Appia Antica Park
From the ebike rental point you can pedal on the road 113 Northern Sicula, it is a busy road only in the vicinity of the inhabited centres. After a few kilometres there are Bagheria where to welcome you first will be Villa Cattolica where the spoils of the famous Bagherese painter Renato Guttuso are guarded. Profollow in your lap and all 'crossing next, by taking right, flawed course Butera. From here following our app, you can tour this beautiful town rich in baroque villas including Palazzo Butera and Villa Palagonia also called "the villa of monsters". Exiting then from the center is set up to the fraction of Porticello, a fishing village with the most numerous fishing fleet in the Tyrratic coast of Sicily. Here it is possible to find the freshest fish and also find a place where you can enjoy it will be no problem. From here you continue to the Borgo di Sant'Elia where you can also make a nice refreshing bath by stopping you in a wonderful beaches all 'The interior of a beautiful handset. On the way back you can't not make a stop at the Chief Lighthouse of Zafferano that closes east the Gulf of Palermo, it is possible to reach the beacon by pedaling along a narrow path from the enchanting panorama on the sea and on the coast. At this point making the littoral with a view of the Gulf, we recommend you a stop also in Aspra fraction of Bagheria deer to fishing and knowingly for the conserve of anchovies under salt, sardines, etc., and where there is a museum dedicated to this very ancient activity carried out since remote times. After the anchovies you can make a return to the city with the view that falls on the sea from which Mount Pellegrino is erected.

The excursion starts on the slopes of the castle of the Scaligero di Valeggio castle, to discover the streets of the historic center and the legendary tortellino. We continue passing under the bell tower of the church of Santa Lucia dei Monti to head towards the Terre del Custoza, dominated by another vertical line, that of Ossario. In un quadro paesaggistico di assoluto pregio, sarà possibile immergersi nelle vigne, lungo facili sterrati, per raggiungere la cantina vinicola, dove sarà possibile degustare una selezione di etichette e fare acquisti direttamente in azienda.
Il percorso è ricco di spunti e angoli interessanti, che mostrano il lato rurale dei luoghi attraversati con i meleti e i coltivi tipici di quest’area e offrono al visitatore alcuni splendidi esempi di chiese campestri e caseforti medievali.

I Piani Resinelli sono adagiati su una grande sella ai piedi del Gruppo delle Grigne. Dalla loro posizione privilegiata si può godere di un’incomparabile vista che dominando la pianura sottostante, il lago di Lecco ed i bacini dell'Alta Brianza arriva fino al Monte Rosa. Il Massiccio delle Grigne è raggiungibile attraverso diversi percorsi con partenza dai Piani Resinelli. I Piani Resinelli toccano la quota media di 1300 metri sul livello del mare, sono raggiungibili in pochi minuti di automobile, noi con le nostre e-bike partendo da Malgrate dobbiamo prevedere non meno di un'oretta e mazza per la sola ascesa. Il percorso é interamente su asfalto, e nel tratto sino all'abitato di Ballabio dobbiamo considerare che si pedalerè su una strada parecchio trafficata, ( soprattutto nel fine settimana) mentre nella parte successiva la strada diventa più stretta e meno caotica.
Oliveto Lario, Lago di Como, Bellagio, Magreglio, Lezzeno
Beautiful climb from Caprie to the base of Rocca Sella, passing through Peroldrado, Campambiardo, Camparnaldo, and Celle. Ideal route for a 2-3 hour ride through nature on a pleasant asphalt road that climbs for almost 700 m in altitude to reach the alpine village Comba where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Sacra di San Michele and the whole the lower Val Susa. Before Comba there is the cozy Rifugio Rocca Sella, a must - visit because of a good glass of wine and a hot meal.

The e-bike cycling route in Alta Langa winds through vineyards and hazelnut groves, starting from the electric bike rental point in Murazzano. The electric bike makes it easy to reach the villages of Bossolasco and San Benedetto Belbo. The route meanders through the picturesque hills of Alta Langa, offering a cycling experience of remarkable scenic and cultural interest.
Murazzano
The loop tour starts from the e-bike rental point in the historic center of Murazzano. The historic center of Murazzano is pleasant to visit by bike and is dominated by the ancient cylindrical tower from the 13th century. The route continues outside Murazzano's town center and crosses pasture fields that produce excellent fodder for milk production used in making the famous Murazzano DOP cheese. If you're lucky, during the warm season, you can observe cows grazing in the pastures. With the guidance of the BikeSquare app, cycling will be pleasant on secondary roads with low traffic.
Bossolasco
After the first few kilometers of moderate ups and downs, which the e-bikes make super fun, the route reaches Bossolasco, also known as the "village of roses" for its roses scattered throughout private and public gardens, making visits particularly pleasant during the flowering season. Outside Bossolasco's town center, you can ride the electric bike through hazelnut groves and chestnut woods, with slopes rarely exceeding 8%. The village of Bossolasco, with its well-preserved medieval historic center, represents an ideal spot for a refreshing break.
San Benedetto Belbo
The second village reached on the e-bike is San Benedetto Belbo, named after the Belbo River. This section is characterized by panoramic hairpin turns that allow you to admire the Belbo Valley and its slopes covered with woods and terraces.
The route passes through various rural hamlets where you can still observe the traditional Langa stone architecture, a testament to the local farming culture. The vegetation gradually changes, moving from higher areas dominated by chestnut and oak woods to lower areas characterized by cultivated hazelnut trees.
Approaching San Benedetto Belbo, the bike route follows the course of the Belbo stream, entering a cooler and shadier environment. The village, tied to the memory of writer Beppe Fenoglio who set some of his most famous stories here, represents the final point of the itinerary. The village preserves interesting architectural elements such as the baroque parish church and ancient stone houses.
The e-bike tour comes to an end as you return to the starting point, Murazzano. At the end of the route, an aperitif with the famous Murazzano Toma cheese is highly recommended.

Questo percorso parte dalla piazza mercato di Bosco Marengo, comune che si estende ad ovest fino al torrente Orba,
paese che ha regalato i natali ad un personaggio storico di grande rilievo, Frà Michele Ghislieri, divenuto poi Papa Pio V nel 1566.
Il tracciato si snoda per il centro storico, costeggiando prima le mura che un tempo isolavano il borgo più antico, risalente all'epoca preromana,
e solcando poi, la campagna coltivata in direzione del torrente, raggiungendo la storica tenuta San Michele del XII secolo.
Trattasi di un percorso molto facile e quasi interamente in piano, principalmente su strade bianche, adatto per famiglie, anche con bimbi piccoli
vista la distanza percorribile.
Il primo tratto di strada, dalla ten. San Michele alla diga omonima, lambisce la garzaia di Bosco M., area naturale protetta caratterizzata da numerose
specie nitticore quali le Ardeidi, risultando molto probabile l'avvistamento della garzetta o dell'airone cenerino nei canali di irrigazione.
Dalla diga di San Michele alla diga di Fresonara si costeggerà in tutta la sua lunghezza il torrente Orba, per poi raggiungere l'abitato di Fresonara, attraversando prima
la piazza Don Luigi Orione e raggiungendo poi la chiesa di Santa Maria, si imboccherà nuovamente una strada campestre per ritornare nell' abitato di Bosco M.
Come ultima tappa, la visita al Complesso Monumentale di Santa Croce, che papa Pio V ebbe il desiderio di edificare, affiancando il convento domenicano, arricchito da tre chiostri,
e la chiesa tardorinascimentale, che ancora conserva pregevoli opere di Giorgio Vasari e della sua scuola.

Then you will head towards the modern area of Barcelona, where you will immerse yourself in the Catalan Modernism, exploring the amazing buildings designed by Gaudí, Casa Batlló, Casa Milá, and the impressive Basilica of the Sagrada Familia.
At the Temple, you will get a SKIP-THE-LINE access to the Sagrada for the inside tour of the Cathedral. Inside, you can take a tour by yourself or be guided by the audioguide in your own language.
